Name: Gustave
Story appearances: Antrodus series (in development)
Height: 42 meters (horizontal)
Length: 110 meters
Weight: 18,500 tons
Origin Story: After a large-scale alien parasitic infection was thwarted by Earth’s monsters and armies, scattered remnants of the foul, slimy extraterrestrial desperately searched for the nearest host. Unfortunately for them, nearly all of those were bait, and the parasite was either killed or captured.
Except for one. One was released by the creature’s original carrier a bit early, when the bizarre beast was over Africa. Greedily gobbled by a young crocodile, the parasite in turn devoured the infant reptile from the inside. Stretching his bone’s and skin like putty, the alien grew and multiplied. Leaving the structures it deemed useful, they hollowed out the rest. They left much of his brain, but firmly rooted themselves into it to maintain control. Named Gustave after the former deadliest croc around, the new kaiju would then search out and destroy those who exterminated his colonization group.
Personality: Gustave is very much insane, as both of his minds struggle for dominance. It’s common for his main body to suffer a seizure while his tentacles flail out at opponents to hold them at bay. The extraterrestrial parasites controlling his body are driven by revenge, hunger, and a desire to spread their kind to any available host. However, given their increased size, the only creatures large enough to support them are kaiju and the occasional whale. The crocodile portion of his brain is adept at forming stealthy hunting strategies, though since he’s still technically fairly young, is inexperienced.
Special Abilities: Tentacles : Gustave’s parasites are able to burst out of his body here ever they wish, making him a disturbing and versatile fighter. Being fairly cunning his few moments of lucidity, he often makes very creative use of these, choking other kaiju, hanging from cliffs, or even popping out his eye and using them to peek around corners. Gustave is also known to have a large group of tentacles burst from one location and then coil around each other to form one larger, rope-like appendage with the tips useful as grasping ‘fingers’. For all their uses, however, each individual tentacle is weak, and can easily be pried or torn off with little effort.
Regeneration: The parasite also grants Gustave something of a healing ability, smaller members of the parasitic mass reaching out to pull together any open wounds. It cannot replace removed limbs and such, but can reattach, say, his arm if it’s only lopped off, more like just putting himself back together than true regeneration.
Infect: A more once-per-fight sort of move, Gustave can regurgitate a writhing mass of disembodied parasites, which will then untangle themselves and find the nearest host. However, they are extremely weak and very vulnerable to drying out. Even if they aren’t just stomped on, they’ll dry up and die in sunlight.
Combat style: The combined intellect of the parasites, plus the young crocodile’s mind and instincts, make for a potent though unstable fighting style. Gustave nearly always gets in the first bite, and tries to overcome his opponent as quickly as possible, drowning them if he can. However, occasionally the crocodile brain tries to regain control of the freak’s body, resulting in a mild seizure. Usually, while the main body is convulsing, the tentacles lash out with increased aggression to protect itself. Gustave is very cunning, utilizing ambushes, weapons, and his tentacles to great use, using the combined intellect of the thousands of parasites. If Gustave can pin his opponent, he may vomit a mass of parasites onto them directly which, if they succeed in getting inside the other kaiju, would get to work slowly making them something like himself.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Gustave relies strongly on his first attack, being only average in a flat out, fair, fight. Fortunately, his tentacles provide a definite advantage, allowing him to fend off attacks from all sides, if used in sufficient numbers. As the alien symbiote is carbon-based, it is vulnerable to Antrodus’s carbon pseudo flame. Gustave is cunning, but unstable, and while his tentacles have a vast array of functions, they’re very weak individually. Like any croc, his jaws and tail are exceptionally strong, and he can easily pull other beasts under water, death roll, or just yank to the ground.
Sample Fight: Gustave vs. Gorosaurus and Varan, Monster Island
Varan lumbered over to the edge of a nearby river, looking around before drinking. Gorosaurus was near a small cliff, sleeping in the shade. Neither of them expected the parasitic monstrosity to explode from the water. A single eye popped out of the water, perched on a writhing mass. Varan, ignored it, and continued drinking. The eye slipped back under. Almost as soon as it was under the surface, a half dozen tentacles grabbed Varan around the neck, trying to pull the reptile under. More tentacles grabbed his forelimbs, hauling the struggling beast into the water. The surface calmed, sparing the occasional bubble, then reddened. Gustave’s eye periscoped up again, looking around, just in time to see the inside of Gorosaurus’s mouth. The dinosaur’s jaws snapped shut, severing the tentacles and the eye. Gustave shrieked and rose out of the water, the remnants of the tentacles flailing back into his bony skull. Gorosaurus backed up quickly, startled. Gustave lunged out of the water, tentacles bursting from his hide. Gorosaurus roared at this freak, at least until three of the slimy black appendages wrapped around his throat. Carried by his momentum, Gustave tumbled over the giant dinosaur, accidently ripping off his own tentacles. Gorosaurus got up, and bit Gustave on the back of the neck. Growling, Gustave wrapped more tentacles around his neck, and into the dinosaur’s throat. Gagging, the massive saurian recoiled, briefly struggling against the writhing worms until they tore off. Bellowing, Gorosaurus lashed out with a powerful kangaroo-king, cracking Gustave’s ribs and leaving massive gashes. Squealing, Gustave slammed into the side of the cliff, hard. Panting, Gustave lay still for a moment, letting the parasite stitch him back together. Feeling better within seconds, Gustave regained his footing and let loose his rumbling, gurgling roar and released dozens of more tentacles. Gorosaurus charged back into the fight, Gustave lashed out, grabbed the top of the cliff, and pulled himself out of the way. Gorosaurus meanwhile, bashed his skull into the rock, and collapsed, knocked out. Gistave dropped down on top of the unconscious dinosaur, and regurtitated a mass of his parasites. Unraveling themselves, the parasites went up to Gorosaurus’s face and bored inside through his eyes, nostrils, ears, and mouth. Gustave twitched, his two mental halves stuck between watching his fellow parasites take hold over a new host, and eating the killed Varan before something else did. Annoyed, the parasites lashed out and reeled Varan in, as a compromise.
