Name: Die Spinne
Story appearances: Rygama series
Height: 26 Meters
Weight: 32,520 Tons
Length: 67 Meters
Physical description:
Personality:
Die Spinne is an animal, first and foremost. While his intelligence is ludicrously high for an arachnid, in the long run he operates principly on instinct. His primary concerns are food and survival. His body is specially designed to be able to maximise food intake, even to the point of being able to digest his own webbing.
Die Spinne is not above tackling other giant monsters for food. This renders him a very aggressive creature, though he's notably content to leave enemies trapped in his webs for days before eating them.
Origin Story:
Die Spinne is a cloaked mystery. Most likely the spawn of the Rage virus, Die Spinne first came to be known during the large uprising of mutations, when he attacked a coastal city, feasting on the populace, as well as a squid mutation that surfaced during the rampage.
Die Spinne's rampage became a fierce battle, however, as Rygama came ashore, having pursued the squid mutant with intent to eat it herself. The two brawled viciously, Rygama finding herself caught in the spider's web, only to rip it out of the ground and drag it with her. The battle continued into the night, before Rygama seized the upper hand, heating up her flesh and plowing it into the spider's mouth, igniting the venom sacs and effectively exploding the arachnid's face. With a final stomp, Rygama crushed the spider's braincase, leaving his corpse stuck quite firmly to the bottom of her foot.
Months later, Die Spinne was discovered to have apparently survived, though with a noticeable "broken glass" pattern visible in his cephalothorax, apparently the result of faulty regeneration.
Die Spinne currently resides on what has been nicknamed "Monster Island", or "Isla De La Bestia", where he remains a fidgety, nervous, aggressive creature. He knows one of the residents has hurt him badly and is wary of them... he just can't quite seem to remember which one of them it was...
Special Abilities:
Die Spinne is an accomplished brawler, supported on muscular legs, as opposed the hydraulics normally found in spiders. His strength is considerable, allowing him to knock enemies around with only one or two legs at a time. His agility is disturbing and his legs can propell him up to ten times his own height straight up. He's even capable of webslinging, ala Spiderman.
His toothy jaws speak for themselves, but also ooze a very specilized venom, designed for rapidly breaking down protein. This venom isn't injected, but merely covers a wound and softens tissue from the outside. This is due to the fact that the venom is used less for offensive purposes than it is for breaking down unwanted webbing.
From his abdomen, Die Spinne can fire at least three different types of webbing in Spidermanesque strands. The most common type is the adhesive, which melts into the target, binding it to the silk and forcing an opponent to rip itself apart in order to free itself.
Another variety is the basic type, which lacks adhesive properties, but is often tipped with it in order to websling.
The final variety is the ion silk, which is effectively just that: ionized silk. Different ion intensity levels can be used to try and stun small prey, while more intense blasts can even kill it, or numb and paralyze parts of other monsters. This is effectively a taser weapon on a giant monster scale, though intense enough strands can indeed cause tissue burns and have even been witnessed to burn right through lesser appendages after enough exposure.
Die Spinne is able to maintain the ionization for as long as the silk remains in contact with his body, though it will dissipate after a minute or so once it leaves his body. This means that the spider has to work to form a full web of ionized silk, though it its indeed possible.
Combat style:
Die Spinne is a brawler, pure and simple. If an opponent isn't within charging distance, he'll drag them into range with his webbing. Die Spinne is an acrobat, and frequently blends his strikes with great leaps, bounds or the like, if it works to his advantage. For his simple brain, Die Spinne is disturbingly competent at strategy, at least as far as martial combat goes. He's been witnessed to block, parry and even execute combo strikes! Indeed, Die Spinne fights as though he's been trained to do so. His venom is less his trump card than a tactical weapon, used to soften up enemies or catch them off guard.
The stun silk is primarily used to soften up enemies while he drags them into range of his more sophisticated weaponry. Though he does prefer to immobilize his prey with his silk, he'll cease to rely on it after a certain point, lest he trap both himself and his opponent.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Die Spinne excells at brawling. A great blend of speed, dexterity and strength allows him to hold his own up close with the best of them. His legs and underside are covered in particularly hard armor, allowing him to support himself and leap to and fro without fear of injuring himself.
Unfortunately, his carapace is a different story. The armor is relatively thin in order to make room for the proper organ systems to sustain his abilities. This is one reason the spider relies on his legs to keep enemies at an arm's length.
Beyond this, Die Spinne is noticeably lacking in the ranged department.
Sample Fight:
Die Spinne wasn't sure what to make of this new creature. He had first thought it to be one of the many tasty, wriggly things that populated this city, yet a moment later it was as big as him!
Jet Jaguar crossed his arms over his chest and loomed dramatically over the spider, grinning his signature grin. His joints rang out their signature shing as he assumed a fighting stance.
Die Spinne assumed his own fighting stance, raising his frontal pair of legs and tilting his cephalothorax back. Corrosive drool poured from his own grinning maw.
The two circled one another, neither making the first move.
Die Spinne's patience quickly ran out. Parting his jaws, he coiled his spring-like legs and jumped.
Jet Jaguar's gaze darted up, following the spider as it came down upon him. Extending his fist and leaning into the blow, the android swung a powerful right jab, plowing into Die Spinne's lower cephalothorax, stopping his descent and sending him right back with twice as much force!
Die Spinne didn't just fall back, he went flying. Yet despite the oozing crack in his belly, he retained focus. Tucking his legs close to his body, he cannonballed backwards, landing on all eight feet not less than ten blocks away! Without skipping a beat, his abdomen arched under his body, both spinnerettes pointing right at the android. Two bright white strands of solid material projected like bullets, both striking Jet Jaguar right in the feet. The android stumbled down, gazing as his feet as the silky substance adhered to both his feet and the pavement. He tried to pull his feet up, yet found them both firmly fused to the spot.
Die Spinne wasted no time, charging face forward into his enemy. Jet Jaguar threw his arms up, trying to block the spider as it tackled him, yet its great size ensured that all he did was sandwich his arms beneath Die Spinne's belly.
The arachnid immediately set to work, beating his pedipalps furiously into the robot's bionic cranium. Sparks flew and dents formed as the spider furiously pounded into Jet Jaguar's mug. An eye fractured and a mechanical wheeze escaped the curiously placed vents along his face.
The android heaved and shoved, lifting Die Spinne off of him. The spider dug its hooked claws into the pavement, but with another heave, Jet Jaguar hurled it off of him, pulling his leg up and standing. Wait, yes, standing! Die Spinne's tackle had ripped Jet Jaguar's feet free from their bindings, taking a massive chunk of road for each foot.
Die Spinne scuttled back as Jet Jaguar rose, brandishing his fists. As jet Jaguar prepared to throw a left hook into Die Spinne's face, strand of silk tore through the air, fusing into Jet Jaguar's prepared arm and quickly sweeping over his frontal portion, clotheslining both arms together.
Die Spinne swung his body back, lashing out with not one but four of his frontal legs, beating them into Jet Jaguar's chest, flinging the robot onto his back.
Die Spinne advanced to maul his downed opponent, only to be greeted by a vintage boot to the head, popping one of his twelve eyes.
Jet Jaguar rolled over, shoving back onto his feet. However, much to his dismay, both of his arms were now firmly fused to his chest. He still had legs, however.
Die Spinne jumped back, narrowly avoiding a stomp aimed at his head. Immediately his spinnerettes went to work. His dorsal patches lit up with a neon glow and his eyes began flashing randomly before all three lit up with the same glow. His rear legs began working furiously, pulling a cloil of glowing green webbing from his backside.
Jet Jaguar rushed forward, aiming another stomp, but the spider literally jumped shark, hurling himself into the air and frontflipping over the robot's head.
Jet Jaguar spun around, but his enemy had already vanished behind the cover of office buildings. But he had an ace up his sleeve. Activating his invisible, plot hole-powered boosters, he ascended in seconds, floating high over the rooftops. The metropolis, however, did not betray the spider's presence. Jet Jaguar began to rotate, scanning the city.
A sudden motion from behind caught his attention, a moment before a green glow overtook him. A heavy, moist object smacked into his back - but this was the tame end of it. His circuts exploded in a hellstorm of ions as the energized material ripped through his innards, coursing across his form.
Spider and robot slammed into the ground, only one of them on their feet. Die Spinne released the flail-like glob of ion-silk, nearly as large as his cephalothorax. The string that allowed him to grip it dangled limply before him now, the main mass clinging to Jet Jaguar's back. It was time to finish it.
Jet Jaguar's circuts roared back to life with a distinct SHING. He rolled over, gazing at his opponent as its legs coiled beneath it, ready to strike. This couldn't be allowed. Even if he had to damage his body, he would retaliate. He pulled with his arms, at first doing nothing. As Die Spinne left the ground, however, the armor gave. Jet Jaguar ripped the skeletal frame of his arms from their metallic armor, swinging his upper body forward.
Die Spinne did a front flip, bringing his hind four legs together in a railspike-esuqe maneuver, intending to drive them all through the robot's body at once. His great weight and momentum would ensure that the clawed tips tore through the mech's body like carboard. True, his vulnerable spine was exposed now, but the blow would end the android before he got to exploit that. And so Die Spinne's hind region swung like a hatchet, down at Jet Jaguar's rising body.
Jet Jaguar's fist flew like an arrow, plowing into Die Spinne's backside with incalculable force. The armor was no match for the momentum and with a sickening squelch, the robot's mangled fist drove through Die Spinne's back, ripping through one of his ion-generation organs and driving directly into the spider's brain.
Both hit the ground, neither of them on their feet this time.
Jet Jaguar rose, however, pulling his fist from the arachnid's "spine". It twitched and gurgled at his feet, but its center of control had been decimated. Die Spinne was at Jet Jaguar's mercy.
Bringing his foot to face level and bringing it down on the spider's face, Jet Jaguar ended the battle.
