The following is a finished sample bio of a canonical monster that you, the FFKT applicants, can use as a model upon which to base your own monster bios, in order to get a good idea of what the staff is looking for. This is how Godzilla's bio might appear if he were being entered in the FFKT.
*****
Name: Godzilla
Story appearances: Godzilla film series
Height: 55 meters
Weight: 25,000 tons
Origin Story: Once but a mere dinosaur, Godzilla was mutated into a horrific engine of destruction by the fallout of a nuclear blast. Emerging from the sea in the 1950s to wreak havoc on Tokyo, he was initially perceived as a terrible threat. Over time, however, Godzilla would butt heads with other freaks and mutants of gigantic proportions and proved to be an invaluable asset in the defence of the earth from other monsters even more dangerous than he. To this day, Godzilla resides on Monster Island, ready and willing to take on all comers who dare to invade his territory.
Personality: Godzilla, though honourable, is still a highly dangerous and inherently destructive creature. Godzilla is feisty and never shies away or backs down from a good fight. He holds no special love for humans, whom he accuses of constantly bullying him; a justifiable claim, as he is met with military resistance wherever he goes. Thus, he will not go out of his way to protect people when fighting, and ultimately causes as much damage as he inflicts. Despite his overall surly attitude, he misunderstood; Godzilla has a soft side and is a caring, albeit stern father to his adopted son Minilla.
Special Abilities: Godzilla’s most distinctive and powerful weapon is his Atomic Breath. When using it, his dorsal fins light up, before unleashing it in the form of a neon blue oral ray. He is able to adjust its intensity, from a wispy flame hot enough to melt solid rock into molten slag, to an energy beam capable of inflicting high explosive damage to his foes.
In addition, Godzilla is highly resistant to damage, thanks in part to his hide, which is strong enough to repel tank shells and ballistic missiles, and resist physical blows from other monsters. He is also endowed with swift regenerative capabilities, allowing him to rapidly heal from injuries that would cripple other monsters. Finally, Godzilla possesses swift reflexes, as well as great physical strength and dexterity, and can lift objects more than twice his own weight with ease. He is a powerful swimmer and able to breathe underwater, enabling him to fight on land or at sea.
Combat style: Godzilla, as mentioned prior, is a determined and tenacious fighter, always willing to engage an opponent and never willing to back down. However, he is very crafty and is able to use his natural strengths to adapt to changing combat conditions; a master of improvisation, he is known to utilise karate and judo techniques in battle, and sometimes wield foreign objects such as rocks, buildings and trees as makeshift clubs and projectiles. A sapient creature capable of rational and abstract thought, his is willing to abandon grudges and join forces with other monsters to eliminate a common foe, and communicate with them to formulate strategies.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Godzilla is a very versatile and capable monster. Adept at range and at point blank, on land and in water, he is a jack of all trades, so to speak. However, he possesses a few notable exploitable weaknesses. His Achilles Heel is his secondary brain, located where the base of his tail meets the hips; rupturing it can paralyse him and leave him open to attack. He is also vulnerable to electricity, and elements which counteract radiation, such as cadmium, can have an adverse effect on his biochemistry. Also; while he dabbles in just about every aspect of combat, he is a master of none, and his “averageness” could be exploited by more specialised monsters.
Sample Fight: Gigan tore into a skyscraper with his meat hook-like forelimbs, ripping through it as if it were cardboard. Up from the depths of the nearby ocean rose Godzilla. The King of the Monsters thumped his chest in challenge, and Gigan paused his rampage to shriek at him obligingly. The pitiful humans could be destroyed later; Gigan would rid himself of this nuisance first.
Godzilla and Gigan lumbered towards each other. Gigan lunged at his opponent with his meat hooks, but these were caught by Godzilla, who used Gigan’s own momentum to throw him to the ground. Gigan stood back up and spun around to meet his opponent, only to receive a swift pop to the chops from the king of the monsters. Gigan staggered backwards and Godzilla poured on the offence, following through with a swift right hook to the kidney. Gigan screamed and lashed out with his bladed arms again, only to have Godzilla swiftly duck under them and retaliate with an uppercut so fierce it lifted Gigan right up off his feet and sent him sailing head over heels! Gigan came crashing down on a parking lot 100 meters behind his opponent.
Realising he lacked the speed to compete with his opponent in hand to hand combat, Gigan attempted a new strategy, taking to the air and swooping towards Godzilla, opening fire with his eyebeam as he approached. Godzilla roared in pain as the laser cut into his chest, but was silenced when Gigan sliced his head open with the buzz-saw on his belly, spraying blood and skull fragments in his passing. Gigan landed and turned around to observe his handiwork; Godzilla lay on his side, twitching in agony and haemorrhaging at a startling rate.
Gigan cackled victoriously, but his triumphant guffaw was soon replaced by an expression of astonishment and dread. Shakily, Godzilla rose to his feet, the laser wound and the gash in his head scabbing over as his regeneration set in. In mere moments, the flesh wounds were completely healed and the monster king snarled as if to say, “you’ll have to do better than that.”
Gigan warbled and took to the air once more, intending to finish him off with another pass. This time, however, Godzilla ducked and swung his tail upwards, intercepting the space cyborg in mid-flight and knocking him out of the air. Gigan crashed into a nearby apartment building, and Godzilla turned around to fire his Atomic breath at his downed opponent, blasting him repeatedly and searing his alien flesh. Gigan shrieked and fired back, his crimson energy ray stabbing the monster king in the eye. Godzilla reeled backwards in pain.
Badly scalded but not yet finished, Gigan leapt to his feet and charged for Godzilla, meat hooks gleaming and buzz-saw spinning, hoping to tear into him before his eye grew back. Godzilla deftly spun around to the side and lashed out with his tail, tripping the space monster. Gigan pitched foreword onto his beak and hit the street hard, his still-whirling buzz-saw tearing up the concrete and flinging debris all over. Godzilla seized Gigan’s tail, lifted him over his head, and hurled the cyborg space chicken into the nearby bay. Landing in the sea with a mighty splash, Gigan shrieked in pain as his cybernetic components were short-circuited by the salt water. He fell limp, and was unable to retaliate as Godzilla finished him off with a mighty blast of atomic breath, blowing the creature to smithereens.
Godzilla unleashed a mighty victory roar. With the space invader soundly beaten, the kaiju king could return to his home on monster island until he was needed once more.
