Name: Martian Campsite
Story appearances: Kaiju Chronicles of Mars
Size: 43.6 square miles
Description: A large, circular section of Martian landscape. One half of the circle is blocked off from the rest of Mars by a mountain range, and the other by a deep trench. The circle itself consists of the very rough terrain of Mars (i.e. a curvy landscape that even a vehicle built for off-road transport on earth would have extreme trouble getting across, with steep hills and valleys). Near the center lies a huge basin with steep walls that is very hard to get out of. Opposite it stand a large collection of Martian war machines, which form a “city.”
Hazards and Notable Landmarks: As stated above, there is a deep basin near the center of the battlefield. A kaiju that falls in there could easily be stuck there for the rest of the battle if it can’t climb or fly well.
The tripod “city” could also be a hazard. Each tripod war machine stands ten meters tall and 7.5 meters wide. They function very similar to tanks on earth, except they’re far more agile and carry heat rays instead of shells. The heat rays burn everything they touch, although it would take a while for them to burn a kaiju since they were designed to take out creatures that are roughly human sized. The tripods, numbered 50 strong, can be destroyed just as easily as tanks on earth, and can be avoided completely if the kaiju in the battle don’t attack them. Personality is a big factor concerning this hazard.
Finally, the oxygen level at the Martian campsite is similar to that of the highest point of a mountain: enough to support earth life in the short term, but enough exposure will make an earth animal pass out. The lower gravity makes up for this slightly, as the earth kaiju would be much stronger and faster than they are on earth, but they’d also tire out much quicker as a result. This means the battle would be much faster than one on earth.
